Royal Bardia
national park is located in west Nepal and covering 968 sq. km. is the
largest wilderness area in the Terai. The park provides an excellent habitat
for many endangered spices-rhinos, elephants, gharials crocodile, gangatetic
dolphin, etc. As you canoe Karnali River you will spot the fresh water
dolphin playing in the water and crocodiles basking in the sun. It was
in 1976 that it was gazetted as Royal Karnali Wildlife Reserve with an
area of only 368 Sq. Km. In 1982 it was renamed as Royal Bardia Wildlife
Reserve.
Here your chances of spotting a tiger in Nepal are the highest. The wild
elephants and some of the males found here are considered to be the largest
in Asia. The Geruwa River that rushes in through a break in the hill range
is home to the famous masher game fish, gharials, marsh mugger crocodiles
and the freshwater Gangetic dolphins. The park also has cobras, kraits
and pythons.
